چکیده

abstract  background: the brain response to temporal frequencies (tf) has been already reported, but with no study reported for different tf with respect to various spatial frequencies (sf).  materials and methods: fmri was performed by 1.5t ge-system in 14 volunteers during checkerboard, with tfs of 4, 6, 8 and 10hz in low and high sfs of 0.5 and 8cpd.  results: average percentage bold signal change demonstrated the amplitude of the fmri response to different tfs was maximal in 6hz for high sf of 8cpd, while, it was maximal at tf of 8hz for low sf of 0.5cpd.  conclusion: the results are useful for vision therapy (such as the treatment of amblyopia) and visual task selecting in fmri studies.

Spatiotemporal visual response to suprathreshold stimuli

The spatiotemporal visual response to an inducing bar of a short duration was studied by a brightness-matching procedure. The apparent brightness of a test line, presented in the centre of an inducing bar, exhibited a U-shaped dependence of the inducing-bar width with a minimum at about 4.5' width. The temporal response to a 4.5'-wide inducing stimulus consisted of three alternating phases, the...

Effects of visual deprivation on synaptic plasticity of visual cortex

TBS (Theta Burst Stimulation) and PBs (Primed Bursts) are among effective tetanic stimulations for induction of LTP in hippocampus. Recent studies have indicated that TBS is effective in LTP induction in layer III synapses of neocortex, only if applied to layer IV. However, the possibility of neocortical LTP induction using PBs, has not yet been investigated. Sensory deprivation greatly influ...

Position selectivity in face‐sensitive visual cortex to facial and nonfacial stimuli: an fMRI study†

BACKGROUND Evidence for position sensitivity in object-selective visual areas has been building. On one hand, most of the relevant studies have utilized stimuli for which the areas are optimally selective and examine small sections of cortex. On the other hand, visual field maps established with nonspecific stimuli have been found in increasingly large areas of visual cortex, though generally n...

Visual and auditory stimuli associated with swallowing: an FMRI study.

We focused on brain areas activated by audiovisual stimuli related to swallowing motions. In this study, three kinds of stimuli related to human swallowing movement (auditory stimuli alone, visual stimuli alone, or audiovisual stimuli) were presented to the subjects, and activated brain areas were measured using fMRI and analyzed. When auditory stimuli alone were presented, the supplementary mo...

Early visual cortex organization in autism: an fMRI study.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by preserved visual abilities as well as a special profile for visual cognition. We examined the visual cortex of high-ability individuals with autism in order to assess whether the presence of abnormalities at the primary sensory level in autism could be the basis of their unusual pattern of visual cognitive abilities. We found that the ear...
